We’ve been working with Go Flourish Charity on this garden for North Kessock Primary School, designing a tool-shed and play fort. Tool shed built over Easter and now in use. The tool shed is conceived of as both an outside and indoor room, it has been designed to be accessible and interactive for the school-children with large cupboard doors to house day-to-day tools and an internal room for larger items. The overhanging roof forms a sheltered area over a bench from which to look out over the rest of the garden.
Salvaged materials used throughout in the corrugated roof sheet and old sash windows. It is an entirely locally-sourced timber structure pinned to granite boulders as foundations. The walls are clad in proper riven timber shingles from Dornoch installed by the incredible R.G. Bushell. The doors and inside of cupboards are yet to be painted and finished by volunteers on the community open days.
It is such a pleasure to be able to work on a small building that is already extensively used and loved. Theo is now a Trustee for the Go Flourish Charity which is on a mission to make outdoors learning mainstream across Scottish schools, improving mental and physical health. North Kessock is the first pilot school and is part of a detailed research study which is a gathering evidence to affect change. We look forwards to continuing to have a close connection with their amazing work.
