Gateside Farm Steading near Bridge of Earn, Perthshire is typical of many working farm buildings that are now no longer of much use in their original function. A 19th Century, red sandstone conglomeration with scores of interlocking scotch slate roofs. The buildings have been altered and added to in a highly functional and unceremonious manner, leaving traces and scars of previous windows, openings and uses.
We have been asked to explore possibilities for giving the buildings a new lease of life into the long-term as commercial / workshop / storage spaces that can be let to local tradesmen from whom there is strong demand for affordable workspace. It is good to be gently and gradually saving these beautiful old structures from decrepitude and creating something of a community in the process.
